Villa Don Mimi
Location and Surrounding Area
Located in the heart of Taormina and steps from the town’s most beautiful sites, this magnificent six-bedroom villa is the perfect place for a relaxing break in one of the most popular tourist destinations in Sicily. One of the main pleasures of Taormina is wandering around Corso Umberto I, the narrow street that crosses the full width of the town. Taormina is well-known for its antiques and handicrafts, but there are also chic boutiques galore as well as delicatessens crammed with delicious local produce.
Here, retail therapy can be combined with some of the most splendid vistas in the world. The most striking sight in Taormina is the site of Greek Theater, with views of Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea. Stop to admire the view from the terrace in Piazza IX Aprile and visit the ancient churches in the town, such as the cathedral and San Giuseppe. For another wonderful view of the town, follow the steps up to the medieval castle at the top of Monte Tauro – It is well worth the climb.
Visit the Villa Comunale, filled with luxuriant vegetation and blessed with wonderful panoramic views. Don’t miss the unusual pagoda-like towers, follies decorated with pumice stone, built by Florence Trevelyan Cacciola, a British woman and passionate ornithologist who settled in Taormina. After lunch, visit Giardini Naxos, a small seaside resort just a short distance from Taormina and the site of the earliest Greek colony in Sicily. Ruins of the town walls can still be seen, set among lemon trees.
Taormina is undoubtedly a jewel of the Ionian coast, and its many facets dazzle visitors like the sunlight on its clear blue waters. The easiest way to reach Taormina’s beach is by cable car, but you can also walk down the long flight of steps from the center. Take the cable car down to the sea for magnificent walks along the coast, to the cove dominated by the tiny Isola Bella, today a World-Wide Fund for Nature Reserve, or to Spisone, with its lovely sandy beach.
Villa Don Mimi is 69 km from Catania Fontanarossa Airport, 305 km from Palermo Falcone Borsellino Airport and 387 km from Trapani Vincenzo Florio Airport. The villa is just 1,3 km from the center of Taormina, where all the necessary services can be easily found. The villa is 53 km from Messina, 53 km from Catania, 119 km from Siracusa, 146 km from Noto, 158 km from Ragusa and 179 km from Modica.
The Property
Located on the Ionian coast, Villa Don Mimi embodies the true spirit of comfort and elegance, providing a perfect hideaway in one of the most celebrated destinations in Sicily. With a generous terrace overlooking the sea, this magnificent noble and historic residence is perfectly set in a secular park. Offering an elegant atmosphere, Villa Don Mimi can accommodate up to twelve guests featuring six double bedrooms.
Located in the center of Taormina, the villa had a very glorious past hosting the King of England Edward VIII, Hollywood stars, aristocrats, famous artists and intellectuals. Today, after a careful restoration, the villa is ready to be a less-than-predictable place where to enjoy an extraordinary vacation. Each of the six bedrooms features air conditioning and wireless Internet access. Please note that two bedrooms share a bathroom. All the bedrooms boast antique furniture reflecting the stylish atmosphere of the house.
Surrounded by a manicured garden, the villa boasts a glorious infinity pool (which can be heated on request at an extra cost) and far-reaching views across the Isola Bella and the Strait of Messina. The poolside area is equipped with comfortable sun loungers inviting guests to sit back and unwind. With multiple al fresco areas designed to be enjoyed while lounging and dining, the terrace represents an idyllic spot for basking in the sun and enjoying wonderful moments of relaxation in the company of a good book.
Offering an elegant atmosphere, the ground floor houses a generous fully-equipped kitchen with all the amenities you might need during your stay, two dining rooms, multiple sitting areas and a relaxing library complete with a fireplace. Every room opens onto the terrace through French doors. All rooms are filled with exquisite antiques and custom furniture, rich fabrics, along with heirlooms, artifacts and wall art collected by the villas’ aristocrat owners. A guest bathroom completes this floor.
