Location and Surrounding Area. Escape from everyday life at this charming six-bedroom retreat found on the island of Salina, the second-largest and lushest of the islands in the Aeolian archipelago, which lies off the coast of northern Sicily. Offering incredible sea views, Salina is dotted with caper bushes, olive trees and vineyards, and Villa Acqua is close to the tiny hillside town of Malfa. Of all the islands, Salina is one of the best places to base yourself, as it offers both beautiful scenery and the archipelago’s nicest retreats.

Consisting of strikingly beautiful volcanic cliffs separated by inlets, sometimes quite deep, the Aeolian Islands are unique for their extraordinary rock formations and volcanoes, and for their history. The islands attract hordes of visitors every summer who come to bathe and dive, yet despite the crowds, each island somehow manages to preserve its own individual character. Dominating the islands, especially in winter, is the sea, with migratory birds nesting on the cliffs, and frequent storms.

You will find superb swimming and snorkeling in crystal-clear waters off the dramatic volcanic sand or pebbly beaches. Salina offers a relaxing lifestyle with a much slower pace of life compared to the more frenetic Italian city destinations, and an excellent culinary tradition of fresh, local products. There are plenty of family-run restaurants offering delicious menus, and where time seems to have slowed down on the island, your natural energy resources will be replenished as you give yourself over to island life.

While the eating and drinking here are divine, Salina’s greatest pleasure might be a moped ride to towns like the port of Santa Marina Salina, with its namesake cheery yellow church and docks lined with fishing boats; the rocky, waterside Lingua, or the quaint village of Pollara, where much of the iconic Massimo Troisi’s movie “Il Postino”, the tale of Pablo Neruda’s exile, was filmed. The villa is in the pretty hamlet of Malfa, on the North coast of the island, which has its own harbor for renting boats. 

Villa Acqua is 212 km from Catania-Fontanarossa Airport and 297 km from Palermo Falcone Borsellino Airport. The villa is in the hamlet of Malfa, where all the necessary services can be easily found. The island of Lipari is 25 km from the property, the island of Panarea is 29 km, the island of Filicudi is 35 km, the island of Vulcano is 36 km, the island of Stromboli is 53 km, the island of Alicudi is 53 km. Milazzo is 69 km from the property, Messina is 106 km, Capo d’Orlando is 131 km.

The Property. With breathtaking panoramic views capturing both the infinite blue sky and the glittering Mediterranean Sea, Villa Acqua boasts a history of once being a Financial Police barracks and, according to some sources, also a former convent. Surrounded by a garden filled with fruit trees and sweetly-scented Mediterranean flowers, Villa Acqua can sleep 12 guests in 3 independent suites, each with 2 double bedrooms, spread over two floors. Each suite also features a sitting room with a sofa bed (3 sofa beds available at an extra cost).

However beautiful the accommodation might be, the outdoor area is where you will probably be spending much of your time during your stay. The garden offers a turquoise infinity pool (heated upon request, for an additional fee) and a paved poolside area furnished with comfortable sun loungers inviting guests to unwind while enjoying the charming panorama. Offering a peaceful atmosphere, the outdoor area also features a veranda for quiet moments and romantic al fresco dinners under the stars.

There are three independent and beautifully-decorated suites in total making up the entire property, which sleeps 12 guests in total. Each spacious suite is about 90 square meters and features two double bedrooms, two bathrooms (one of which is en-suite) and a sitting room plus corner kitchen area for complete, culinary independence if required. Each suite also features a coffee machine to get your morning off to a great start. Elegant artwork and fairytale décor create a romantic atmosphere where you can unwind.

With hues of green and pink, one of the suites boasts a free-standing bath. The second suite boasts an exclusive writing desk overlooking the island of Panarea. These two suites are on the upper floor and have direct access out onto the terrace. The third suite is on the ground floor and leads out onto the veranda and gardens. With designer furniture and avant-garde artwork, the shared living room, from which you can access the fully-equipped kitchen and the dining room, opens onto the outdoor veranda.
