The Property
Tucked away in the countryside of Canale di Pirro, in the northern Valle d’Itria near Castellana Grotte, Villa Calipso is a beautifully restored late 18th-century farmhouse where authentic Apulian heritage meets refined contemporary living. Once abandoned and now thoughtfully reborn, this elegant retreat blends tradition, design, and sustainability to create a serene escape in Apulia. Spanning approximately 280 sqm and filled with natural light, Villa Calipso can accommodate up to 6 guests in 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and 1 twin).
Outdoors, Villa Calipso opens onto countryside views, where fields, olive groves, orchards, and ancient dry-stone walls stretch towards the horizon. A pergola sets the scene for al fresco lunches, complemented by a barbecue area. The swimming pool (10 x 4 m, depth up to 1.40 m), open from April to October, appears to merge seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The garden, designed by the award-winning Studio Paz, harmoniously blends native plants, aromatic herbs, and sculptural stone pathways.
Inside, the villa reveals interiors defined by understated elegance and tactile beauty. Here, the quiet charm of rural life meets contemporary elegance, offering an intimate yet sophisticated setting in which to fully unwind. A professional-grade kitchen flows into a relaxed dining area designed for slow meals and easy conversation. Reclaimed stone floors, bespoke furnishings crafted by local artisans and hand-forged iron details add depth and quiet character throughout.
The design blends clean northern lines with the rustic charm of a traditional masseria, creating warm, modern, and timeless spaces. The three bedrooms are served by refined bathrooms (two with showers and the master with a shower and freestanding bath) all finished in natural materials such as lime plaster, warm wood, and local stone. Solar-powered and naturally insulated, the farmhouse was restored using reclaimed and locally sourced materials, including salvaged stone from nearby historic buildings.
