CRETE SENESI – CHIANCIANO TERME

5+2 Bedrooms

Location and Surrounding Area
Nestled in the rolling hills of southern Tuscany, Crete Senesi enjoys a prime location near Chianciano Terme, a charming spa town famed for its thermal waters. The villa is surrounded by gentle slopes, olive groves and golden fields, with sweeping views over the Val d’Orcia and its picturesque hilltop villages. This peaceful setting offers the perfect blend of countryside tranquillity and easy access to Tuscany’s cultural gems, including Pienza and Montepulciano.

Chianciano Terme is one of Tuscany’s most celebrated spa towns, known since ancient times for its thermal springs and healing waters. A leisurely stroll through its charming historic centre reveals quiet cobbled streets, elegant piazzas and sweeping views over the surrounding hills. Here, visitors can enjoy indulgent wellness treatments, soothing thermal pools and a relaxed, timeless atmosphere that perfectly complements the villa’s sense of peace and seclusion.

A short drive away, the Val d’Orcia unfolds in a series of breathtaking panoramas – rolling green hills dotted with cypress-lined roads, sunlit vineyards, and timeless medieval villages. Towns such as Pienza, with its harmonious Renaissance architecture and artisan food shops, and Montalcino, famous for world-class Brunello wine, invite slow, immersive exploration, offering both cultural riches and exquisite culinary pleasures.

For those wishing to venture further, the Tuscan–Umbrian borderlands present an abundance of fascinating treasures. The artistic heritage of Siena, the lakeside charm of tranquil Trasimeno, and the scenic wine trails of Montepulciano are all within easy, picturesque reach. Whether seeking art, history, fine gastronomy or simply the unspoilt beauty of the open countryside, the surroundings of Crete Senesi offer endless opportunities for unforgettable discovery.

Crete Senesi is 105 km from Perugia San Francesco d’Assisi Airport, 150 km from Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport, 211 km from Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport, and 225 km from Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport. The property is 5 km from Chianciano Terme, 11 km from Montepulciano, 19 km from Pienza, 34 km from Montalcino, 37 km from Lake Trasimeno, 62 km from Cortona, and 75 km from Siena.

The Property
Crete Senesi is a lovingly restored Tuscan farmhouse with a rich history, originally rebuilt by Antonio Origo in the 1930s for a large farming family. Set in an enviable position facing Monte Amiata, with the sweeping Val d’Orcia at its feet, the villa enjoys uninterrupted views bathed in sunlight, sheltered to the north by wooded hills. Crete Senesi accommodates up to 14 guests across 5 spacious bedrooms in the main villa and 2 bedrooms in the charming Casa del Fattore.

The grounds are a natural extension of the villa’s beauty, blending with the surrounding landscape. Ancient oak, plum, mulberry and cypress trees provide dappled shade over the manicured lawns, while climbing roses, lavender, rosemary, and honeysuckle bring seasonal colour and fragrance. A long table beneath the pergola, draped with wisteria, roses and grapevines, offers the perfect spot for convivial al fresco dining. At the far end of the garden lies a secluded swimming pool (12 × 6 m).

Main Villa (5 Bedrooms):
Inside, the villa combines traditional Tuscan character with elegant comfort. On the ground floor, a former cow barn has been transformed into a bright and informal summer room with large windows, original mangers now cushioned for seating, and a welcoming open fireplace. This level also features a double bedroom with garden access and an en-suite bathroom adapted for wheelchair use. A Renaissance-style travertine spiral staircase leads to the first floor.

On the first floor, a central living room with a fireplace and large African hardwood dining table opens onto a spacious kitchen. The kitchen is a true Tuscan heart of the home, complete with beamed ceilings, a travertine hood, a waist-high fireplace for cooking, and striking blue lime-washed walls. Alongside the accessible ground-floor bedroom, the first floor offers two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, one additional double bedroom, and one twin room sharing a bathroom with a bathtub.

Casa del Fattore (2 Bedrooms):
Casa del Fattore, once the estate’s pigsty, henhouse and ox barn, has been converted into a delightful 80 sqm loft-style cottage. Featuring old tie beams, a large fireplace, a double bedroom, a twin room, and two bathrooms with showers, as well as a cosy kitchen and living area, it offers complete privacy and comfort. When rented alongside the main villa, it ensures exclusive use of the swimming pool. Outside pool season, Casa del Fattore can be rented independently, with its own entrance and a private garden.
