Perfectly placed near Lake Garda, this former 17th-century monastery is the ideal retreat in one of the most evocative corners in the north of Italy. Surrounded by mountains and hillsides dotted with olive and lemon trees, Lake Garda is Italy’s largest lake, covering 370 square kilometres and reaching into the regions of Veneto, Lombardy, and Trentino Alto Adige. A much-loved holiday destination since the days of ancient Rome, Lake Garda’s position results in a delightfully diverse range of scenery, culture, and cuisine.

Tucked at the foot of the Alps in northern Italy, Brescia is the second most populous city in the region after Milan. One of the main centres of production of the famous Franciacorta sparkling wine, Brescia overflows with surprises, ranging from beautifully preserved Roman sites and Renaissance architecture to a lively contemporary culture and alluring culinary traditions. Brescia stands out for its historic centre, which has been redeveloped, converted into a pedestrian zone, and transformed into a greenery-filled space.

The villa is also a few kilometres from Verona, a vibrant trading centre, the largest city in Veneto and one of the most prosperous in Northern Italy. Best known for Shakespeare, Verona attracts a multinational gaggle of tourists to its pretty piazzas and lanes, most in search of Romeo and Juliet. But beyond the Renaissance romance, Verona’s centre boasts magnificent Roman ruins and fine palazzi built of rosso di Verona, the local pink-tinged limestone. In one hour by car, you can reach Bergamo. One of Lombardy’s four great historic cities, Bergamo might be the finest, courtesy of its handsomely walled old town, antique but atmospheric main piazza. Split into two sections: alto, the old town atop a hill, and basso, the newer town inhabiting the plains below, Bergamo juxtaposes medieval monuments with the footprints of 21st-century hipsters. Herein, 600-year-old cafes stand alongside brand-new coffee labs.

The Property
Located in the Valtènesi area in the Lake Garda wine region, Villa del Garda is a charming 17th-century villa offering a perfect country escape for those seeking relaxation in the heart of Tuscany. Recently restored and complete with a pool, this exclusive villa still exudes historic charm with a distinctive style that is evocative of traditional Tuscany. With a blend of original features and modern décor, Villa del Garda can sleep six guests in three double bedrooms (plus two extra guests in a single sofa bed and in a single bed).

With an enchanting setting, the villa boasts a generous garden crowned by a large heated pool. Offering a calm atmosphere, the paved area around the pool features a table tennis and comfortable sun loungers, inviting guests to unwind. Surrounded by greenery, the outdoor area boasts a wide choice of shaded al fresco areas where you can relax with a book or take a siesta. Outdoors, you will also find a covered outdoor kitchen overlooking the pool.

Once a monastery, the property has been meticulously restored, offering modern facilities combined with a refined atmosphere. On the lower ground floor, you will find a formal dining room in a vaulted cellar, a Gaggenau gourmet kitchen, a guest bathroom, and a gym, allowing fitness enthusiasts to maintain their programs while on holiday. The gym features a variety of equipment, such as two exercise bikes, a rowing machine, dumbbells, a weight bench, a wall bar, yoga mats, and a large yoga gong.

With historic stone walls and exposed beams, the villa features three double bedrooms complete with air conditioning and an en-suite bathroom with a rainfall shower. Two bedrooms are located on the ground floor. In one bedroom, you will find a single bed. In the other, you will find a single sofa bed. On the same floor, you will also find a second fully-equipped kitchen, a living room, and a guest bathroom. On the upper floor, you will find a bedroom and a library. Air conditioning is available in all bedrooms and in the Gaggenau kitchen.

Retention time
