Located near Trapani, this villa is the perfect place for a relaxing break on one of the most celebrated stretches of coastline in the Mediterranean. The villa is a few kilometers from Trapani, whose small port buzzes with ferry traffic zipping to and from the remote Egadi Islands and the mysterious volcanic rock island of Pantelleria, not far from Tunisia. The villa is also a few kilometers from the town of Marsala. Many know about its sweet dessert wines, but few people realize what a charmer the town of Marsala is. Favignana, the largest of the islands, has a rugged and barren landscape. At the jagged coast, the thin soil has been scraped off to expose the tufa rock. The island is divided in two by a mountainous ridge, and its highest point is Monte Santa Caterina, topped with a fort built by the Normans and extended in the 17th century by the Spanish. Mondello became fashionable in the 19th century, when the city's elite flocked here in their carriages, thus warranting the huge Liberty-style pier that dominates the seafront and kicking off a craze for building opulent summer villas. Offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, a lush garden wraps the property and leads to an exclusive salt-water pool with roman steps surrounded by a paved poolside area with comfortable sun loungers inviting guests to sit back and relax. Complete with a terrace with lounge and a dining area under the shade of a pergola, the outdoor space boasts an outdoor kitchen and represents an idyllic spot for basking in the sun and enjoying moments of relaxation in the company of a good book.
