VILLA SPLENDID VIEW - MASSA LUBRENSE
6 Bedrooms
Location and Surrounding Area
With generous lush gardens and expansive panoramic views of the crystal-clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, this elegant six-bedroom villa boasts a private swimming pool and an exceptional Jacuzzi, providing the perfect place for a stylish break on one of the most famous stretches of coastline in the Mediterranean. With a spectacular cliff-top setting facing the glittering Bay of Naples, it is no wonder the Amalfi Coast is a must-visit destination on everyone's bucket list.
To the west and south-west of Sorrento is a hilly hinterland, the sprawling Massa Lubrense, and a wild stretch of coast that developers have left untouched. The Massa Lubrense is home to hamlets and ancient look-out towers, a reminder of repeated invasions over the centuries, surrounded by citrus and olive groves. The ancient town centre of Sorrento is laid out on a Roman grid of narrow lanes, now lined with exclusive restaurants serving gnocchi and shops selling lemon-themed souvenirs.
But away from the well-worn paths are little-explored nooks and crannies. The vaulted Sedile Dominova, once a meeting space for aristocracy, is now a working-men's club where old-timers while away afternoons playing cards. Then there are traditional greengrocers and haberdashers huddled behind wooden shop fronts, the medieval palaces along Via Pietà, the magnificent courtyard of Palazzo Correale, and artisan workshops producing the same wood intarsia for which the town became famous in the 18th century.
If Sorrento gets too much, the laid-back town of Vico Equense, which stands on a sheer tufa cliff just along the coast, makes an attractive base. Beach bums tend to head for the small pockets of sand tucked into coves at Marina di Vico and Marina d'Aequa, walkers tackle the old footpath to Positano, clinging to the cliffs on the Amalfi coastline, and culture hounds hop on the Circumvesuviana train to march around the ancient sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum, destroyed by the eruption of the Vesuvius.
The sight of Positano from a distance is breathtaking. Colour is everywhere, reflecting on the tranquil sea, the silvery pebbled beach and the gleaming Majolica-domed church of Santa Maria Assunta. The houses built up from the waterside, accessible to one another via an endless array of steep stairs, boast pale sorbet colours. In summer, when the serried ranks of sunbeds fill up quickly, take a boat to explore the many small coves up and down the coast.
Tucked in between mountains and sea, Amalfi is a town best explored on foot. While Piazza Duomo and the main street are home to most of the town’s shops and restaurants, do spend some time wandering and exploring the quieter side streets, where you will find arched passageways, hidden gardens and tiny piazzas. The villa is a few kilometres from Ravello. Sitting high in the hills above Amalfi, Ravello is famous for its lush gardens and stupendous views, the best in the world according to former resident Gore Vidal.
Villa Splendid View is 58 km from Naples Capodichino International Airport and 286 km from Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. Sorrento is 7 km from the villa, Vico Equense is 17 km, Positano is 23 km, Amalfi is 35 km, Ravello is 40 km, Maiori is 41 km, Pompeii is 32 km, Herculaneum is 48 km, Vietri sul Mare is 50 km, and Naples is 54 km. How did you enjoy your ISV experience; actual accommodations, amenities and services We just got a great client review on Villa Splendid View at Massa Lubrense.
THANK YOU for making us look good
The photos of the villa in the material you sent us really do not do it justice. They need a better photographer for next year. It is a lovely lovely spot. The views over Capri from the garden/pool (especially with the sun setting behind Capri) are stupendous and the roof terrace has a 360 degree vista that is incredible - grappa enjoyed with shooting stars, moonlight sea, Capri, Vesuvius and fireworks over Massa Lubrense will live long in the memory.
We did go out at night even if it was quite hard to leave before sunset had been thoroughly enjoyed (with a drink or two in hand). However, eating at the villa was no hardship. We had the chef some nights (great outside dining and outdoor kitchen), we cooked ourselves some nights and did a cooking course (all of us) for one evening meal and made surprisingly good food. The staff could not have been more helpful but Lisa (the local "fixer") and Susi (house keeper) were fabulous. All the bedrooms were also great and the gardens beautiful. The owner obviously carries some weight locally and her name and Lisa's efforts opened some interesting options for us when we did venture out.
It may not have quite the self contained excellence and service of, say, Amanoka, but it is an amazing setting and has all of benefits of the Amalfi coast and Italy to hand. For me, I prefer that. Massa Lubrense is just off the tourist routes. Sorrento or St Agata are just a few kms away and, as you know, are just teeming with people. In contrast, within Massa Lubrense we never needed a reservation for dinner (despite being 11 people) and shopped for our tomatoes alongside the locals (at a fraction of the cost in Sorrento). That made it very special.
Thank you again, very much. |
