Location and Surrounding Area

Located near the center of Sorrento, this nine-bedroom villa is the perfect place for a stylish break on one of the most famous stretches of coastline in the Mediterranean. Known as the land of the sirens, in honor of the mythical maiden-monsters who were said to live on Li Galli, a tiny archipelago off the peninsula’s southern coast, the area to the west of Sorrento is among the most beautiful in the country. Tortuous roads wind their way through hills covered in olive trees and lemon groves, passing through sleepy villages and tiny fishing ports.

A small resort with a big reputation, Sorrento is a town of lemons, high-pedigree hotels and plunging cliffs that cut through the heart of the historical center. Tourism has a long history here: it was a compulsory stop on the Grand Tour and interest in the town was first sparked by the poet Byron, who inspired a long line of literary geniuses to sample the Sorrentine air. Wander through Piazza Tasso on any given Sunday and you will be exposed to one of Italy’s finest strolls, snaking past palatial hotels, magnificent marquetry shops and restaurants serving gnocchi finished off with a shot of ice-cold limoncello.

Only 4 km from Sorrento via a direct walkable route involving copious steps, the village of Sant’Agata Sui Due Golfi sits atop the crest of the Sorrento Peninsula with sea views over the gulfs of Naples and Salerno. Despite its proximity to several holiday havens, the village generates a tangibly different climate to nearby Sorrento, both meteorologically and culturally. Walking options are legion. Trails lead off in all directions and it won’t take long before you hit a coast. The food is equally legendary, even by Italian standards, with some wonderful agriturismi.

To the west and south-west of Sorrento is a hilly hinterland, the sprawling Massa Lubrense, and a wild stretch of coast that developers have left untouched. The Massa Lubrense is home to hamlets and ancient look-out towers, a reminder of repeated invasions over the centuries, surrounded by citrus and olive groves. Situated 120 m above sea level, it comprises a small-town center and several hamlets joined by an intricate latticework of paths and mule tracks. For those without a donkey, there is a good network of SITA buses, but this is excellent walking country with the two gulfs rarely out of sight.

If Sorrento gets too much, the laid-back town of Vico Equense, which stands on a sheer tufa cliff just along the coast, is an authentic place worth a quick stopover, if only to sample some of the famous pizza by the meter. Beach bums tend to head for the small pockets of sand tucked into coves at Marina di Vico and Marina d'Aequa, walkers tackle the old footpath to Positano, clinging to the cliffs on the Amalfi coastline, and culture hounds hop on the Circumvesuviana train to march around the ancient sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum, destroyed by the eruption of the Vesuvius.

Offering charm and modern comfort, the lower level boasts two double bedrooms which can be connected on request: the Sorrento Suite, a double bedroom with king-size bed, en-suite bathroom with shower and living room, and the Pompeii Suite, a double bedroom with king-size bed, en-suite bathroom with shower and living room. On the same level you will find the Napoli Suite: two double bedrooms with king-size bed; one room boasts a free-standing tub (please note that this room does not have a bathroom) and the other room boasts two bathrooms with shower.

On the upper level you will find the Capri Suite: a double bedroom with king-size bed, a mezzanine level with single bed, and a bathroom with tub. On the same level, you will also find the Ravello Suite, which is accessible from a spiral staircase, and features a twin room (or double bedroom), a double bedroom with king-size bed and two bathrooms with shower. Finally, on the same level, you will find the Positano Suite, which features a double bedroom with king-size bed (or twin room) and bathroom with shower, and a double bedroom with king-size bed, walk-in closet and bathroom with shower.

Please note that some of the bedrooms feature sofa beds that can accommodate extra beds on request.
