Location and Surrounding Area. This elegant apartment sits in a superb location between Piazza Navona and the Vatican. It is right in the heart of Renaissance Rome, within walking distance of many of the city's greatest attractions. The property lies on a quiet side street so you have the benefits of plenty of peace and quiet whilst staying in the centre of the city.
Rome is a city dripping with history; from the wonders of Michelangelo's artwork in the Sistine Chapel to the Colosseum and Imperial Forum, there is so much to see and do. The city was relatively undamaged during the Second World war and as such, the centre remains essentially renaissance and baroque in character. Not to be missed is a coffee in the nearby Piazza Navona and the quintessential Campo de' Fiori with its statue of the philosopher and mathematician Giordano Bruno in the centre. The nearby Pantheon is perhaps one of Ancient Rome's best preserved buildings and the dome remains today, even after 2000 years, the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome.
The magnificent Spanish Steps link Piazza di Spagna at the bottom with the Trinità dei Monti Church at the top. The Spanish Steps were immortalized in the 1953 film Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck and it is still a place where lovers sit and gaze at the beauty of the surrounding buildings and maybe make a private wish at the stunning Barcaccia Fountain below. The Steps, as the locals call them, also featured in the 1999 film version of The Talented Mr Ripley starring Matt Damon. And as if that wasn't enough, the English poet John Keats lived and died in the house on the corner at the bottom of the steps and the building has been turned into a museum dedicated to his life and works.
Casa Marcus apartment is about a 40 minute drive from both of Rome's international airports; Fiumicino and Ciampino. It is a short walk to the Vatican, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and Piazza Campo dei Fiori. The marvels of Trastevere and the Spanish Steps are 20 minutes away on foot.
The Property. Casa Marcus is in a gorgeous 17th building and features stonework over the entrance by the famous Florentine architect Antonio Sangallo. The apartment generally sleeps four guests in two enormous double bedrooms but there is the possibility of adding four further guests on a double sofa bed in the studio and on beds in the main bedrooms. The apartment is filled with light and eclectic artworks from all over the world. Both of the main bedrooms have luxurious en suite bathrooms. The master bedroom has direct access to an intimate courtyard with a Roman fountain, a backlit panel by the Russian artist Majakowoski and lamps by Paola Napoleone. The headboard in the other bedroom features designs in Toile de Jouy.
The living room is a designer's dream with beautiful sofas in 1920s style. There is a dining room with chairs by Phillipe Starck at the bottom of a stunning glass staircase. The kitchen is spacious and has everything you might need for creating authentic Roman dishes. The studio has a double sofa bed for extra guests and leads into a second, furnished courtyard, which makes an ideal spot for an evening aperitif. To top off the perfection of chic, inner-city living, you'll find a superb wellness centre with a hammam, massage table and jacuzzi. Jack the butler is on hand to help you with anything you need to make your stay as perfect as we could wish.
