Villa San Nicolao – Musumanno - Tuscany

5 Bedrooms – Pool and Jacuzzi

Location and Surrounding Area. This amazing Tuscan retreat is perched on top of Monsummano peak and offers absolutely breathtaking views over the magnificent surrounding hills and vales.  Nearby Monsummano Terme is a popular thermal spa resort and part of the old town dates back to Etruscan times. Here you'll find all of the necessary shops, restaurants and services that you might need during your stay.

Medieval Pistoia is a relatively unknown Tuscan jewel and its architecture begs to be discovered. Take a wander around the central Piazza del Duomo and climb to the top of the Bell Tower from where, on a very clear day, you can make out Florence's Duomo in the distance. During the late medieval and Renaissance times, the city was well known for its feuding and fighting. Dante even went as far as to condemn the feisty inhabitants as “the enemies of heaven”. On a related note, although some scholars dispute the fact, local legend has it that the earliest pistols were invented in Pistoia in the early 1500s by Caminellio Vitelli. Pistolese (literally meaning “from Pistoia”) was an interchangeable Italian word used to describe both a handheld firearm and a double-edged, hunting dagger.

Florence is an art-lover's paradise; it was the centre of the Italian Renaissance movement and the museums, galleries, palaces and churches hold some of the world's greatest artistic treasures. The Uffizi, Bargello, Pitti Palace, Boboli Gardens and the Accademia have to been seen and once you tire of art and history, take a wander through the unforgettable streets and across the Ponte Vecchio bridge which spans the River Arno. Florence is also home to designer shopping and fine wine and dining experiences. Thick, juicy Florentine steaks are a local speciality and best accompanied by a delicious, local Chianti wine.

Lucca has often been voted one of the world's most desirable cities to live in or visit. It is perhaps most famous for its thick, 16th century ramparts which encircle the city and were restored in the 19th century to create a wide, tree-lined walkway. You can walk or cycle on top of the whole length of the walls and discover the wonders of the town within. There are pretty, cobbled streets, ancient piazzas, gorgeous churches, glorious renaissance buildings, markets and countless local restaurants, bars and trattorias. Lucca was the birthplace of the Italian opera maestro, Giacomo Puccini and the town often hosts international opera as well as classical music events and rock concerts.

Villa San Nicolao is about half an hour by car from Florence international airport and three quarters of an hour from Pisa international airport. The nearest town of Monsummano Terme is only 4 km down the hill, Pistoia is 15 km away, Lucca 34 km, Pisa 50 km and Florence 54 km.

The Property. The original stone structure dates back to the end of the 1400s and Villa San Nicolao was once upon a time a hospital in the ancient hamlet on the hill. Nowadays it is beautifully appointed, modern, country retreat with plenty of welcoming touches to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. The property sleeps up to 12 guests in five, elegant double bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom and an ante-chamber containing two single beds. There is also a double sofa bed in the living room, which could be used to host a couple of extra guests, bringing the total up to 14 people. Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor, one of which has wheelchair access and the other three bedrooms are on the first floor. One of the first floor bedrooms has its own private balcony and another features the ante-chamber with two single beds, which would be ideal for two children.

There is a large, comfortable sitting room on the ground floor with marvellous views and has direct access out into the gardens. The dining area comfortably seats up to 14 guests. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need for creating delicious dishes or you could sit back and let a professional chef do all the hard work for you. There is also a gorgeous, al fresco dining area just outside the kitchen, where you can sit back and enjoy the incredible views in front of you. If that doesn't give you enough choice, there is a Michelin guide restaurant just next door!

There is a panoramic, hydromassage jacuzzi with a cozy poolside area, perfect for a relaxing soak under the stars. The heated swimming pool is large enough to splash around in and the delightful grounds offer plenty of space for strolling around to admire the view.
