The Villa.In spite of the years of complete abandon, which lead to the grave deterioration of the Villa, it has been possible to conserve the essential characteristics of the original structure. Some typical features of the period were found in the masonry and stonework suggesting that the building dates to the second half of the 15th century – though this has been difficult to define precisely.

The recently finished restoration has paid maximum attention and respect to the structure and characteristics of the original – without sacrificing the functionality and conveniences needed to ensure that a stay at Villa Azzurra is comfortable in every way.

The historic garden, representative of its age and situated to the north of the property, is divided into compartments of geometrical box hedge in the traditional manner, characterized by paths typical of the villas of the time.

An exuberant climbing rose of softer hues covers the arbour in the garden and olive trees, cypresses, buxus and climbing roses further enhance the environment visually and with their fragrance.

Villa Azzurra offers guests a stunning infinity pool (9 m x 16 m, maximum depth 1.50 m), with constant disinfected salt water filtration, equipped with a Jacuzzi area and seating that also allows children to safely use the pool and facilities. Surrounded by a large lawn, there is also a beautiful pergola with a climbing rose. The fragrant atmosphere makes this a truly natural paradise and is perfect for a swim, a relaxing read, or simply a pleasant place to sunbathe.

Villa Azzurra is situated in a perfect position, around 2 km from the city of Lucca, and is ideal for exploring Tuscany – at only 15 km from the historic canter of Pisa and the Versilia coastline, and is easily accessible from the A11 motorway, Lucca East exit. The international airport of Florence is about 65 km from the Villa and the international airport of Pisa is about 20 km away.

The SPA at Villa Azzurra consists of over 200 square meters and is divided into four rooms in a refined and at the same time welcoming space. Natural wood ceilings and materials and soft colours create a precious refuge in the house.

Guests can enjoy a Turkish bath, sauna, cold mist shower scented with eucalyptus, an exhilarating ice fall, or the relaxation area with salt wall.

The latter, consisting of rock salt bricks allows the release of trace elements into the air at a temperature of about 30 degrees and humidity of about 40%, encouraging relaxation and physical wellbeing.

In the SPA guests have the opportunity to choose different paths to physical wellbeing - with a unique sensory journey where even taste sensations are not forgotten. Each path is characterized by a change in ambient using steam, soft breeze, sauna, cold reactions and pure relax. The leisurely journey is accompanied not only by changes in sound, light, colour and fragrance but also with a range of infusions, herbal teas and fresh fruit. It’s possible to choose from these four pathways:

RELAX (BLUE) to melt away the stress with an infusion of lemon balm and fresh fruit such as blueberries or plums.

TONIC (GREEN) to recharge the body with an infusion of mint and fresh fruit such as kiwi or green apple.

PURIFY (YELLOW) to find balance with an infusion of fennel and fresh fruit such as pineapple, peach or apricot.

EXCITE (RED) to recover vigour with an infusion of blood orange and fresh fruit such as strawberries, raspberries, red apple, cherries and orange.

Wine cellar. A well-stocked and typically Tuscan wine cellar is available for guests. There is a wide selection of red, white and prosecco wines from various regions of Italy. Available on request, a sommelier will be happy to assist with the tasting and/or purchase of wines, advising on the combining of wine and food and offering a simple snack or more refined dishes paired expertly by the chef.

The Red House. The farmhouse or ‘Red House’, was probably built at the end of the 1700s to service the main villa. Characterized by its vivid colour, and shaded by a vigorous wisteria pergola, it offers the ideal space for families with children who need comfort and a casual and relaxing environment.

It’s also ideal for friends wanting to share their holiday as a group – providing both convenience and a space to relax.

There is a traditional wood-burning oven, a barbecue, lawn and safe play area for children.

1st apartment. Residence on the ground floor consisting of a large living area, kitchen, bathroom, double bedroom.

2nd apartment. Located on the first floor with living area with sofa bed, kitchen with terrace, bathroom, double bedroom with bathroom en-suite, double bedroom.

3rd apartment. Located on the second floor consisting of living area with sofa bed, kitchen, bathroom, double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, double bedroom.

4th apartment. Located on the third floor in the mansard/loft consisting of ample living area with sofa bed and kitchen, double bedroom, bathroom with ‘antibagno’ (small entrance area to bathroom itself).

Annex. The jewel of the property is the annex, or ‘Barn’, originally an outbuilding, and now a charming apartment with every comfort.

Built of stone and situated near the swimming pool, it has its own shaded terrace, where you can relax while enjoying the view of the large garden. From here, the view takes in the panorama of the nearby hills as well as the flowers and foliage of the garden itself. The romantic courtyard, bordered by low walls of dry stone, are embellished with green boxwood hedges and white roses, offering an air of great charm.
