Villa Panzano - Pieve di San Leonino - Tuscany

6 Bedrooms – Pool – Gym and Sauna

Location and Surrounding Area. This stunning, recently restored 14th century convent features superb views over the valley towards the Lamole and Volpaia hills. It is situated in the heart of Chianti, an area that produces arguably the world's finest wines. This fabled area of Tuscany offers rolling hills with vineyards, olive groves and picturesque fields full of poppies and sunflowers. Cypress trees line the sun-dappled lanes and there are a wealth of stately homes and castles dotted around. Some of the most popular day trips include visits to the wine-producing Chianti hillsides, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Siena, Arezzo, the medieval hilltop towns of San Gimignano, Montalcino, Montepulciano and the cities of art Florence, Lucca and Pisa. Not to be missed are the gorgeous, nearby hamlets of Monteriggioni, Castellini, Radda, Greve in Chianti and Impruneta.

The town of Panzano is only a short walk from the property (around 700mt). It is an extremely pretty, medieval town with all of the necessary services and famous for its organic wines and the celebrity, maestro butcher Dario Checchini with his butcher's shop and kitchen. There are plenty of fine restaurants in the town, a top-notch Italian ice-cream gelateria plus a weekly market every Sunday should you feel like trying your hand at some authentic Tuscan cooking.

Thanks to its long tradition of gold-smithery, Arezzo is one of the wealthiest towns in Tuscany. In addition to the marvellous Piazza Grande, which holds a world-famous, monthly antiques market, go and have a look at the opulent interiors of the artist Giorgio Vasari's incredible Renaissance home. Not only will you find splendid examples of his works but also an archive containing handwritten letters from Michelangelo and Pope Pius V. Siena is medieval gem, famous for its architecture, the Campo central piazza and the Palio horse race, which is held twice every summer. The Palio and the Campo piazza both featured in the James Bond Quantum of Solace film and as you sip a cappuccino in the piazza, it's hard not to slip into film-star mode as you watch the world go by.

Florence is the capital city of Tuscany and a romantic's paradise. It was the centre of the Italian Renaissance movement and its museums, galleries, palaces and churches house some of the world's greatest artistic treasures. The Piazza del Duomo is one of the most visited places in Europe. Piazza del Duomo is home to the magnificent Cathedral with Brunelleschi's Dome, Giotto's Bell Tower and the Baptistry, which are all part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site covering the historical centre of Florence. The Uffizi, Bargello, Pitti Palace, Boboli Gardens and the Accademia have to been seen and once you tire of art and history, take a wander through the pretty streets and across the Ponte Vecchio bridge which spans the River Arno. Florence is also home to designer shopping, fine wine and exceptional dining experiences. Thick, juicy Florentine steaks are a local speciality and best accompanied by a delicious, local Chianti wine.

For gold aficionados, the international Royal Golf La Bagnaia features an 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., which harmoniously blends with the local landscape. You can even gaze out over Siena as you ponder your next stroke.

Florence international airport is a 45 minute drive from Villa Le Masse, the city centre of Florence is just over half an hour away, Siena and San Gimignano are 45 minutes, the La Bagnaia golf course and spa centre is 50 minutes from the property and Monteriggioni, Castellini, Radda, Greve in Chianti and Impruneta are all within an easy half hour radius.

The Property. This gorgeous property was fully restored in 2019 and has been stylishly completed with the comfort of its guests at the forefront of its restoration. The villa sleeps up to 12 guests and the overall look is one of a true Tuscan welcome. You're guaranteed to feel at home instantly in the six, enormous, air conditioned bedrooms, each with a spacious en suite bathroom with walk-in shower. Three of the bedrooms have super-king sized beds and the remaining three are American queen size/English king size. One of the super-king size beds can be separated into two large singles if required. Three of the en suite bathrooms also feature a free-standing bathtub and all of the bedrooms have a cozy sitting area for those in search of private peace and relaxation. One of the bedrooms is in the tower, one on the ground floor and the others are on the first floor.

The living spaces are bright and sunny and feature a gorgeous, central courtyard with an old fountain and dining space for up to 16 guests. This intimate courtyard quickly becomes the hub of the house and has a comfortable sitting area too. You could also choose to dine al fresco on the terrace or under the shade of an old oak tree in the garden if you fancy a change of scenery. The country-style kitchen is fully equipped and has large french windows overlooking the courtyard. There is a media room with theatre seating for that ultimate cinema experience. Otherwise you could kick back in the reading room or head down to the air conditioned gym for a workout. If you really need to work while you are away, there are two office spaces on the ground floor.

The scented gardens, vineyards and olive groves have far-reaching views across the hills and it's likely that you'll be spending many a sunny afternoon splashing about in the infinity swimming pool or switching between the hot tub and the sauna. There is a table tennis table and a bocce set for the more energetic guests. The villa produces its own olive oil, which is available to try or buy plus you'll be able to reap the full benefit of the vegetable garden, fresh eggs and orchard produce.
