Montevettolini is a medieval village outside the city of Pistoia. The town is peaceful with historic palaces and churches, winding streets with breath-taking views. Take a stroll to see the Church of San Michele Arcangelo and its bell tower and, if you are lucky, you might catch the Medieval Feast which happens once a year. It is part of Monsummano Terme which is famous for spas, Etruscan ruins and ancient walls. The medieval city of Pistoia is the capital of the province where Montevettolini and Monsummano Terme are found.

The property is also a few kilometers from Lucca, also known as “the city of 100 churches”. Hidden behind impressive Renaissance walls, its cobbled streets, delightful squares and shady promenades make it a perfect destination to explore on foot. At the end of the day, open-air cafes and historic restaurants tempt visitors to relax over a glass of Lucchese wine and a slow progression of dishes prepared with fresh produce from nearby Garfagnana.

In just fifty minutes by car, you can reach Viareggio, the most important city in the Versilia. Established as a port of Lucca, this popular sun-and-sand resort is extremely renowned for its flamboyant Carnevale, second only to Venice’s carnival, and for its disheveled line-up of art-nouveau facades along its seafront, which recall the town’s 1920s and ‘30s heyday. Stroll along the city center’s charming streets, eat a gelato on the Passeggiata, and look out to the sea on the Dersena.

In less than one hour by car, you can easily reach Pisa, exceptionally well-known for its Leaning Tower. Moving between its alleys and riversides you will discover architectural jewels such as Santa Maria della Spina, the headquarters of the Scuola Normale Superiore in Piazza dei Cavalieri, the exhibitions of Palazzo Blu and the magnetic charm of Piazza dei Miracoli. Start from the Baptistery and head to the 130-meter Camposanto Monumentale overlooking the square.

In just one hour by car, you can reach Florence, a treasure trove of art with an astonishing contemporary vibe. The Property
Built in the 16th century, this grand mansion once was one of thetwelve sumptuous hunting residences of the Granduca Ferdinando I, grandson of the famous Lorenzo de’ Medici. Combining historic charm with modern conveniences, Villa Montevettolini has been finely restored while preserving its original atmosphere. Villa Montevettolini can accommodate up to twelve guests featuring six bedrooms (four double bedrooms and two twin rooms) with en-suite bathroom spread over two floors.

This property is drenched in history having had guests such as Paolina Bonaparte and the Grand Duchess of Tuscany. The inside of the house is adorned with luxurious touches which invite a feeling of relaxation and aristocracy upon entering the estate. This exclusive property owned by a prominent Italian family welcomes the guest with beauty and charm. One word: opulence. There the guests are surrounded by art, chandeliers, murals, Persian rugs, antiques, fireplaces and vaulted ceilings.

Immersed in a lush Italian garden, the villa boasts a monumental staircase leading to a large swimming pool and a generous poolside area with sun loungers inviting guests to sit back and unwind. There is also a pool house by the pool, with a changing area and game room with tennis table, and multiple spots for relaxing in the company of a good book. In this room you will also find a small fridge. Surrounded by lemon trees and bushes, the garden also features an exclusive al fresco area covered in green leaves, with stone and marble tables and chairs overlooking the pool.

The villa has been carefully restored and improved by the present owner, whose family bought the property more than 200 years ago. The guests enter the villa to find the ground floor that is perfect for hosting dinners. There is a formal dining room and fireplace which can comfortably seat twenty guests. There is also an additional dining room as well as a spacious, fully-equipped gourmet eat-in kitchen with two fridges, ice maker, coffee machine, dishwasher and oven.

The ground floor also features a bathroom with shower. On the ground floor you will also find two bedrooms for the staff. Please note that these two rooms are not included in the rental price but are available on request at an additional cost. Two separate staircases lead to the upper floor. The first floor features a billiard room, a consecrated private chapel, a generous living room with two sitting areas with comfortable sofas and a piano, a reading room with library and a cozy living room with fireplace.

The villa features six bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. On the ground floor you will find two bedrooms: a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower; and a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with bathtub. On the first floor you will find four bedrooms: a double bedroom with terrace and en-suite bathroom with bathtub; a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower; a twin room with en-suite bathroom with shower; a twin room (can be converted into a double bedroom) with en-suite bathroom with shower.

The villa was built almost 500 years ago, and despite the continuous renovations and modern comforts that the villa features nowadays, it also displays original themed decorations, charming and enchanting for all its guests. Some of these decorations make some areas of our villa very special, such as the billiard room, in front of the original sacred chapel. With 1200 square meters of living space, the villa is completely fenced, and the entrance features an automatic gate. Please note that the caretakers of the villa live in a private wing of the house.
