VILLA RIVA - CAPRI
12 Bedrooms
Location and Surrounding Area
This magnificent property is located on a hillside overlooking the water of the Bay of Naples and across to Mount Vesuvius. It is also just a couple of minutes walk from the beach and the famous, celebrity-studded Piazzetta. It is only four minutes in a water taxi to Marina Piccola.
There is so much to see and do on Capri; a boat trip around the island and into the fabled Blue Grotto, a visit to the Emperor Tiberius' villas or the house-museum of the Swedish physician Axel Munthe. Although the island of Capri has long been a favourite haunt of the international jet set, it manages to retain an idyllic beauty and there are some excellent walking trails across Monte Solaro and over to the three, picture-postcard, Faraglioni stacks. Monte Solaro soars almost 600 metres above sea level and there is a panoramic chairlift from Anacapri. From the summit, you can see not only the whole island but also across to the Amalfi Coast, the city of Naples and the mountains of Calabria. Legend has it that Ulysses was seduced by the sirens at Marina Piccola. This delightful little bay is sheltered from the wind and it's highly likely that you'll find the locals enjoying the sun here in the winter and the fresh fish restaurants are excellent. The panoramic via Krupp takes you from Marina Piccola back to Capri via the Gardens of Augustus.
The island of Capri covers a total of only 10 km2 so most of the attractions on the island are within a reasonable walking distance or a short taxi ride away. The ferries to Naples leave from Marina Grande and take about 45 minutes. From Naples, you are within easy reach of Pompeii, Vesuvius, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. There are also direct ferries to Sorrento, Amalfi and Positano from Capri. Naples International airport is a ten minute taxi ride from the port.
The Property. Villa Riva offers all of the elegance and understated beauty that personifies the island of Capri. The property has two villas on the estate, which can either be rented together for larger groups or individually with exclusive use of the gardens. The whole property sleeps up to 16 guests with the possibility of adding a further two guests if necessary.
Bougainvillea House. This gorgeous property sleeps up to eight guests in four double bedrooms on the first and a further four people on the lower floor. Three of the bedrooms on the first have got en suite bathrooms and the twin room has its own bathroom with a bath tub. The two lower floor bedrooms both open out onto the gardens and share a bathroom between them. The ground floor offers delightful living room with fireplace, a dining room, a fully equipped kitchen and a large terrace, ideal for evening aperitifs. The terrace overlooks the bay and you can eat your meals al fresco under a moonlit sky.
Gardenia House. This lovely second house also sleeps up to eight guests in four double bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. There is a king size bedroom and a double bedroom on the ground floor and a queen size and a twin room on the first floor, again each with a private bathroom. The large living room with a fireplace is on the first floor, as is fully-equipped kitchen, loggia and dining area.
The immaculate grounds are absolutely stunning and offer plenty of shady areas for settling down with a good book. Otherwise, a walk around the garden will fill your senses with fragrant jasmine and splashes of colourful bougainvillea. Have a refreshing dip in the swimming pool and then spend the afternoons lazing in the sun on the sunbeds. You'll even have your own funicular!
