Apulia Calabria and Basilicata - Maruggio
Villa Petrose – Maruggio – Apulia
5 Double bedrooms – Pool
Villa Petrose’s stone foundations and central core date back to the 18th century when it was covered just by a thatched roof which was later replaced by vaulted stone roofs and take the form we see here today. Restructured with the class and style that only two renown Italian architects can have resurrecting the structure and the original spirit of the house using all local indigenous materials. It is located along the Old Salento way that connects Taranto to Maruggio the Templar Knights road is reflected in the small templar church right next to the Villa dedicated to San Giovanni patron saint of Sava.
The property is immerse in the famous Manduira vineyards which produce the wonderful Primitivo wine and just a few kilometers beyond are the splendid white beaches along the Ionic Sea. The property itself extends for over 12,500 sq. m. of typical Ionic rocky terroir filled with wide secular olive, almond and fig trees, all sprouted from what was a seabed hundreds of years ago giving the whole area a mysterious sense of elegance.
The remodeling respects the original layout leaving all of the rooms lined up and uniting in the grand living room closed off with glass looking over the marvelous Pugliese landscape of olive trees mixed with a pine forest.
270 sq. m. of living space is divided into four double bedrooms each with its own en suite bathroom. All of the furnishings were also designed by the architects reflecting, using and emanating elements of local nature evoking the sea, the surrounding colors and shades that harmoniously fuse well with the stones and other materials used for the structure itself.
All of the original aspects of the house that were restored were simply enriched with additional complementary details such as the little stone sink in one of the bedrooms, or the terra cotta door frames as well as little details in the flooring with a flourish of design here and there from the world famous ceramicists in nearby Grottaglie. The large living room that segways into the sleeping area is detailed with natural linen curtains, grays, and whites, bringing in leather deco armchairs from Paris accented by modern crystal and steel tables. Instead the beds, sofas and wardrobes were inspired by the linear German and Scandinavian design. The kitchen just beyond full of light through the abundance of glass features it’s lovely table created from an old oak tree trunk.
A glassed in covered patio of about 60 square meters leads to the main entrance where you will find three double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms on the ground floor. Fully equipped modern kitchen with refrigerator and dishwasher, pantry/laundry room, powder room are all also on the ground floor.

How did you enjoy your ISV experience; actual accommodations, amenities and services
“We are a family of five and spent 2 weeks in the astonishing Villa Petrose together with Friends who have 2 children. The Domain is absolutely fantastic! CONGRATULATIONS to Giuseppe and Angelo for turning this beautiful place in a paradise. The new Pool was absolutely great and the pool house smartly built, design and very practice. Apero's at Sunset around the pool are a must! Loud speakers shall be installed next summer which will add a real value to the overall atmosphere. The domain is breathtaking, you are swimming and surrounded by old olive trees anchored in the typical red earth of le Puglie. Noise is non existent, you are surrounded by the cicada songs. The House was really great, a piece of history, spacious, clean and well decorated. The kitchen was fine, an airconditionning would be needed and better adapted to 10 people regarding the dining table and chairs. New furniture though is on the way and the lucky ones next summer shall enjoy a brand new set of dining table and chairs for the terrace and indoor. We had the chance to count on our own Chef cook Silvia for Dinner and she made our stay unforgettable. Make sure that you book her through Gianluca Ziveri (Italianstylevillas.com). Angela took care of the housekeeping and went beyond boundaries to make our stay more than perfect, she cooked us specialities from the region that were delicious. If you travel with two couples and very young kids, one of the couple will have to stay in the detached villas and have their kids sleeping in the same big room or you might be allright by using a babyphone. Giuseppe and Angelo were absolutely great, welcoming, generous and respectful, we can still feel the Magic... going on here and would love to be back in their Dreamy Place, Congratulations to both and Thank you very much for making our Holidays a Dream come True.”
