The Salento known as the heel of Italy, is a subregion of Italy that extends over the southern part of Puglia, between the Ionian Sea to the west and the Adriatic Sea to the east. The Salento peninsula is featured by a various landscapes made of many characteristic elements: dry stone walls bordering stretches of olive trees, twisted trunks and large; huge, flats and short vineyards, whitest beach, small towns boasting impressive baroque style churches and palaces.
The region is featured by charming rural towns such as Taurisano, Ruffano, Miggiano and Maglie, in each of which you will find local markets, restaurants, some lovely architecture and a sense of the simple life. The baroque jewel of Lecce is about 45 min drive away, is worth more than a visit! Its historical centre is now a World Heritage Site from Unesco. Further south, there is Leuca the "heel" of Italy, with its Liberty style buildings and Gallipoli the island town with amazing beaches and wonderful architecture.
Villa il Palmento is an elegant eighteenth century villa just renovated and situated right in the centre of the town of Ruffano, a few steps from restaurants and shops and a few miles from the most exclusive beaches of both the coasts Adriatic and Ionian. From the main access a short path will lead you to the villa, featured by a red facade and the name drawn with antique types. The architecture of Villa Il Palmento is typical of the 18th century patrician villas as the in stone patios in the garden and the huge kitchen show. The kitchen now occupies the old "palmento", the winery, that is the place where occurred the crushing of grapes to produce the wine, which was stored in large tanks, that still now you can see preserved with huge glasses.
Behind the villa immediately catches the attention the elegant swimming pool, equipped with every comfort and surrounded by a very well kept garden with olive and fruit trees and Mediterranean flowers and plants.
The villa (300 sq. m.) is built on one level: the big entrance hall, which is featured by high and vaulted ceiling floor, gives access to a huge central living room and the first two double bedrooms, each with its en suite bathroom. The living room is equipped with sofas, table with chairs and a TV sat. The living area leads to the last 2 bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and the old store that now host a fully equipped kitchen with a dining and sitting area. All the rooms are well decorated with a pleasant mix of modern and antiques style. All the bathrooms are en-suite 2 with showers and 2 with a built in stone bath tub.
Possibility to request a cook for lunch and dinner for an additional supplement payable on site
Within the property there is a small very characteristic church. Swimming pool is cleaned once a week.
