Apulia Calabria and Basilicata - PatĂą
Villa Bosco Marti - Patù - Apulia
5 Bedrooms – Pool
Location and Surrounding Area. This peaceful, 5 bedroom villa is only a ten minute drive from the sea at the glorious, southernmost tip of Puglia. It is surrounded by woodland and the nearest villages with shops, bars and restaurants are only 2 km away.
Santa Maria di Leuca is arguably one of Italy's most fascinating destinations in terms of history, culture, food and wine. It is situated at the meeting point of two seas and you can watch the sun rise over the eastern Adriatic Sea and then watch it set again across the western Ionian waters. The coastline varies from high and rocky with secluded sandy coves to long stretches of golden sand. Inland, you'll find lots of pretty, dry stone walls and lanes winding through ancient olive groves and white washed villages steeped in tradition.
This whole region is famous for its spectacular light and sun-drenched colours. Apulian olive oil is arguably the tastiest in Italy and is unbelievably good drizzled over roasted cherry tomatoes and freshly cooked local fish. Likewise, Salento wines are deservedly gaining international recognition and a wine tasting trip makes for a delightful afternoon out.
Otranto was originally a Greek settlement and its story is best told in the cathedral with its large-scale mosaics dating back to the 12th century and the bones of 813 martyrs are displayed behind the altar.
Beautiful baroque Lecce has to be seen. It's the perfect destination for wandering around the pretty lanes and admiring the distinctive 17th century architecture. It has a delightful historical centre and an excavated Roman amphitheatre.
Villa Bosco Marti is about an hour and a half by car from Brindisi international airport and two and a half hours from Bari international airport. The nearest sandy beach at Pescoluse is only 10 km from the villa, the pretty town of Gallipoli is about 40 minutes away and Otranto and Lecce are about an hour's drive.
The Property. Villa Bosco Marti sleeps up to ten guests in four double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a self-contained cottage adjacent to the property. Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor and the other two are on the first floor. Both ground floor bedrooms have access to the gardens and one of the first floor bedrooms has its own private terrace. The cottage offers the privacy of a double bedroom, en suite bathroom, living area with corner kitchen and a terrace. The rooms are all gloriously light and airy and have stunning views across the countryside.
There is a marvellously comfortable sitting room with high, vaulted ceilings and an open fireplace for cozy evening conversations. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need for rustling up delicious local dishes and the pretty dining area is conveniently located next to the kitchen. These living areas have direct access to the walled garden and patio area.
The walled garden has a lovely al fresco dining area, a barbecue and plenty of sun loungers for soaking up that sunshine. The large swimming pool is set on the other side of the archway and in addition to the sun loungers, has alluring hammocks strung up in the trees. It will be hard to tear yourself away from all of this peace and relaxation.
